Leeds United sack David Hockaday

first_img1 Former Leeds United manager David Hockaday Leeds United have sacked boss David Hockaday after only two-and-a-half months in charge of the club.Controversial Whites owner Massimo Cellino, who took over the club in April despite failing the Football League’s ‘fit and proper persons’ test, made the decision to get rid of Hockaday after they lost 2-1 to League One’s Bradford in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night. Hockaday was a surprise appointment as Leeds boss back in June, particularly as his only previous managerial experience was the lowly Forest Green Rovers. But it has come as little shock that Cellino has decided to sack the 56-year-old after a poor start at Elland Road which has seen Leeds win one out of their four opening Championship games. The Italian businessman said: “I’d like to thank David for his efforts over the last two and a half months but the results since the start of the season have meant we needed to act and make this decision.“After the defeat at Bradford I realised that my decision to keep David at the club following the defeat at Watford was wrong and I had to change my mind on the coaches position.“As a club we will now begin our search for a new head coach”Leeds also confirmed Hockaday’s assistant Junior Lewis will leave the club and that reserve team/developement squad manager Neil Redfearn will take temporary charge of the side. The Whites host Bolton Wanderers in their next clash in the Championship on Saturday.last_img read more
