Police in A Division (Georgetown) shot and injured a suspected bandit in the wee hours of Monday after he along with another attempted to break into a Mandela Avenue, Greater Georgetown, home.The incident occurred at about 03:00h on Wednesday morning. According to Police reports, Michelle Shurland of Lot 117 A Mandela Avenue, was asleep when she was awakened by the loud sound of barking dogs. Upon investigating, the woman discovered that the back door of her house was open. She then observed two persons fleeing the yard.The victim alerted a Police mobile patrol which was in the area and the ranks, commanded by a Corporal, gave chase after the suspects, who were spotted in the area.During the chase, one of the bandits managed to escape the lawmen while his accomplice was apprehended. However, during attempts to apprehend the suspect, he tried to disarm one of the ranks of his service weapon and as such, was shot once in the right thigh.The wounded suspect, who has since been identified as a resident of Charlestown, Georgetown, was admitted at the Georgetown Public Hospital in a stable condition. He is being kept under guard.Meanwhile, initial investigation revealed that nothing was discovered missing from the victim’s home. Nevertheless, the investigation is continuing as well as efforts to capture the other suspect.
